Incredible New Call of Duty 2 Footage! Do Not Miss!
Posted by Diggler - 26/6/2005 16:44

Wow. I was never blown away with the original Call of Duty like so many others were, but this sequel looks phenomenal. There's a bunch of various clips and trailers currently doing the rounds out there in internet land, but these two in particular are worth grabbing.

First up there's a look at the Normandy beach landing level from the PC version. Further up the coast from Omaha it may be, but it's essentially a much more high-octane remake of the beach assault made so famous in Allied Assault.

But it doesn't stop there. After storming the shores and grappling up a sheer vertical cliff face, the level opens up considerably. Trenches are raided, a bunker is searched, a nearby town is stormed and artillery gun bomb sights are finally sighted in a distant field. What's amazing about all this though is that from the Higgins boats out at sea, right up to the gun emplacements inland, it's one continuous level. The scope and size is absolutely incredible...particularly when you consider the amount of action and carnage going on at every single moment in-between.

Secondly there's a look at one of the North African British maps from the Xbox 360 version. Although the mission itself looks slightly less awe-inspiring, what surprised me is that this X360 version looks just as good, if not better, than the PC version. Even the controls and targeting look amazingly smooth, a far cry from the usual console/FPS mix-matching we're used to.

Letting it down however is the infamous frame-rate drops that have been present in pretty much every single glimpse we've had at the X360 in action. Will this get sorted prior to release? We can only presume so, but time's ticking...
