Doom - The Movie! Brand New Details to Blow Your Mind
Posted by Diggler - 18/7/2005 21:13

The uber American geek fest known as Comic-Con just closed up today, and one of the most interesting reports from the event so far is the Doom movie Q&A that took place earlier.

Now video games (obviously) don't have the best track record when it comes to movie adaptations, and I had the upcoming Doom flick pinned down as yet another future failure that'd ultimately do nothing more than kill me a little inside. Heck, early rumours spoke of The Rock playing our beloved space marine, no mention of Mars in the plot, and perhaps worse of all, the entire Hell storyline apparently being ripped out to appease the religious right.

Well it appears the above were nothing but that...dirty, evil rumours. The locations and plotlines that made Doom what it is are thankfully present and correct, and surprisingly the marine will in fact be played by Lord of the Rings' Karl Urban (The Rock will instead play Sarge, of Doom III infamy).

But here's where it gets good. ID Software themselves have been involved in the movie from the ground-up, and from its early conception were adamant that the flick stick to its video game routes as strictly as possible...including violence and gore. I'm trying desperately to avoid hyping this up too much for myself, but man...I'm getting visions of Aliens - The Next Generation.

Pinkies are in, Hell Knights are in...the fucking BFG is in...but my fave bit of the bunch is word of an extended action scene played out entirely from the first person. Could this be a *gasp* faithful video game adaptation finally realised?

We can expect a trailer soon, but in the meantime check out tons more juicy details and pics on the Q&A via Ain't it Cool News;
