Welcome! Seeing as the site has only just opened, the chance of one single person visiting today are reasonably nonexistent, however I would like to say a few words to mark the occasion.
Why is this site here? Quite simply, I really dig the whole concept of web logs (or "blogs" as they are irritatingly known), however many are so cock limpingly boring that I also simultaneously despise the suckers. How many times for instance, have you returned to a blog repeatedly just to have a cheap chuckle at the author?
With that in mind I wanted to create something that retains a blog style, but provides a read that is at least partially entertaining for all three of its readers at the same time. I'll do that by using it as a review site mainly.
Reviewing what exactly? Pretty much anything. Or should I say everything. Whatever I come across out there in the real world, I'll talk about it on here. I'll be concentrating on video games mostly, as the gaming scene is pretty much my first love at the moment, followed closely by film, but that won't be all you'll find around here by any means.
So many review sites back themselves up into a corner by covering just one unique media, when in my experience the average person cares not for only one, but
all forms of entertainment. We all love music, we all enjoy a trip to the movies, and we all worship a good old bash at Halo with some mates (or The Sims if you're female).
But it'll be more than just a selection of by-the-numbers reviews. Things will also get a bit more personal around here, both from me, and with other writers coming on further down the line. There'll be more of a human touch.
If you want a regular old game review with a mark out of ten at the end, this won't be the site for you. What you'll get here are stories, anecdotes, and some deeper thoughts on the proceedings, not a simple run down of the features.
Also, while I'm indeed planning on bringing you the latest cutting edge releases across the board (even before street date when I can), there's also gonna be a heavy retrospective element to the site. I'm a big believer of looking to the past just as much as the future you see, and thus will be taking regular trips back in time to study the culture of yesteryear, both relating to games, and much more besides. One day I may be regurgitating over the new Michael Bay flick for example, the next I might be blowing the dust off the old Super NES and jizzing over Zelda III.
So while it may be random, weird, and sure, not everything will be 100% relevant to you as an individual, one thing I promise is that this column will never, ever become your standard "today I did my washing up" blogger fodder.
