Wanna See Some Quake IV Screenshots?
Posted by Diggler - 27/12/2004 0:54

Whatever your opinion is on Doom III, you can't argue that the technology behind it is rather stunning. It feels less impressive now in light of everything Half-Life 2 accomplished, but it's still up there as one of the finest engines ever created.

With that in mind, people disappointed with Doom III's basic and simplistic gameplay might be pleased to hear Quake IV will be using that same tech for something a little deeper and more epic. It's also being produced by Raven this time, which some might find interesting.

Although leaked screenshots and concept art have long since found a home in the internet's seedier corners, Yahoo recently posted the first official ones.

Yahoo - Looking Ahead to 2005

While I'm not blown away, they do certainly hint back to Quake II's style nicely, which makes sense considering this one continues off from that plot strand. I always thought Quake II was a much better single player game than most gave it credit for, so this excites me. Come on, those prisoned soldiers screaming "Kill me now..." was fucking classic.

As a side note, a Doom III expansion pack is well under way, and from the little info out there it's quite clear work is being done to give it much more of a Half-Life feel.

This is no more blatantly obvious than the fact it'll even have a gravity gun...
