New Episodes of Consolevania Released
Posted by Diggler - 29/12/2004 17:00

The boys re-enact The Deer Hunter...with NES lightgun!
The internet-based video gaming show Consolevania has released not one, but two new episodes as a Christmas gift to all their loyal viewers.

First up is the hour long episode five. On the one hand it sticks to the tried and tested formula of game reviews mixed with comedy sketches, but I must say the laughs are lacking and the clock watching is out in full force for this one - it's just a weak episode. On the plus side there's reviews of Halo 2 and San Andreas to keep it bearable, plus a nice run-down of the best SNES games of all-time. All in all though this is perhaps the worst Consolevania we've seen so far, and I'd recommend newcomers check out eps three and four for a much smarter introduction to the show.

More impressive is the much shorter Christmas special. Since forming a relationship with the BBC and now attempting to get the show put on TV as opposed to the internet, the boys have begun taking on some constructive advice from the Beeb in preparation for the launch. The results can be seen straight off - it now clocks in at under half an hour, the games coverage is more prominent, and the sketches are scaled back while becoming a lot funnier and more accessible. This special edition is an awards show of sorts, looking back at 2004's highlights.

It all bodes well for the future. With some proper cash and a more professional front-end, Consolevania could become a late-night favourite once it hits national TV.

The official site has also been updated with info on the upcoming episode seven. Among other things, expect a review on KOTOR II which should be interesting, and a documentary on how the gaming lifestyle is touching the youth of today. Consolevania going serious? Somehow I doubt it.
