Boys and girls of the gaming world, allow me do you a huge favour and introduce you to the weird and wonderful universe of Consolevania. What is it? A truly bizarre creation that highlights the potential of the internet.
Quite simply, there has never been a truly decent video game show. GamesMaster was alright if not brilliant, Gamesville tries way too hard to be cool, and the best of the bunch, G4TechTV, while admittedly featuring some decent shows from what I've seen, doesn't broadcast this side of the pond.

Rather than sit here and criticize like me, the creators of Consolevania, a couple of bald Scotsmen, have seized this opportunity to create their own show instead. Shot on DV then let lose over the infamous file sharing network
BitTorrent every month, it's about as low budget as you could possibly get. However it has two things going for it that propel it way ahead of any of the previously mentioned competition.
First off, these guys know their games inside out. Being a games junkie myself, I'm always surprised at the amount of bizarre material reviewed each month that I've never even heard of, both new and old. Take Michigan for instance, a Japanese PS2 import where you play the part of a virtual cameraman who gains points for filming gory deaths and up girls' skirts (often at the same time). These reviews are fair, interesting, and most of all damn funny.

Which leads me on to point two...the guys are hilarious. For example take the Driv3r review, where our narrator starts out singing its praises and wondering what all the negative fuss is about, but slowly and surely starting to expose problems, bugs and dodgy AI in pure and utter disgust. Or the various comedy sketches thrown in to liven things up - my favourite of which are the exploits of Legend, a fictitious games champion from Milwaukee that accosts people on the street with gaming questions. Fans of prank interviewers such as Ali G and Borat will find much to laugh at.
Although still in its early days, Consolevania's onto a good thing. In a way I'm glad this isn't on TV - being uncensored and unconcerned with time limits, it shines. Earlier episodes exhibit some teething problems, but are always entertaining, yet its with this month's latest show that Consolevania has really hit its stride. If you're into your games, don't miss this treat.
